"Careful when you drink next time, you might lose a friend."

April 22, 2008

This one prefers to be anonymous so the gist is, the person got drunk, said something secret and so…"she ended our friendship. I never wanted that to happen. i dont want to lose her. I’d rather lose all the men in my life than lose my best friend."

What advice can you give me? Can Anne and I be friends again? If yes, how? How can I fix this?

This is as much as we can do to keep it anonymous.

You see the difference between men and women is that men are more forgiving because their relationship is founded on mutual experiences and respect. No offense to the girls but it is a phenomenon that men make better friends than women. Relationships with women are founded on the basis of fulfilling a certain need or on a very very high level of trust.

You, anonymous, broke that trust which is a no-no with women. I’m pretty sure you’ve seen movies like Mean Girls

 mean girls

"You betray us and we are sooooooooooooooo gonna burn book you!"

They are exaggerations, but they are based on truths. (Er yeah, I watched Mean Girls, Jingle Bell Rock? ^_^)

So yeah, of course it is possible to regain the friendship but you have to look at it from her perspective. You broke something very important to her. So either she reciprocates by hurting you or you fulfill a certain need that she has. Just be sure to offer it, be out there. That way, you’ve done your share and it’s up to her. I know this isn’t a love issue but the adage is true, "if you let them go and they come back, you know it’s meant to be." But do take note that you can just as easily find another person to take her place. Just saying.

Another thing to notice is that when women run into their long-lost friends they go giggly and giddy but only after a short while. Women have several best friends. So I’m just saying, you can be easily replaced, make sure you provide her a need that only you can fulfill. (Ok that sounded dirty on so many levels but you get the point yes?)

Stop obsessing about it. You got what you wanted right? Sometimes you just can’t have your cake and eat it too. Especially in this situation because it’s family-related.

Don’t be selfish. Unless you can marvelously design a situation where you’re life would not be able to go on without her help. That way you would be appealing to her humanity, I’m not sure on how intact your "morality" would be though.

that’s the thing with being drunk. if am that friend - i won’t give you back that friendship. if we ever could be then we can’t be bestfriends anymore. we might just end up as ordinary hi and hello friends.

Get drunk too and reciprocate the secret busting she did to you. Tell her secrets, that way you’re both even and see if she’ll come back afterwards.

Thanks for dropping by my blog. :)

> So true. If all men had sense like that, we would have no problem.
